Salamanca City Central School District has officially opened its brand-new outdoor courts, giving the community more ways to stay active, have fun, and connect with friends. The facility features five full-sized tennis courts and four pickleball courts, all equipped with modern push-button lighting so players can enjoy matches well into the evening.

Open to the Public

The district’s new courts are open to the public whenever school tennis practices or matches are not in session. To play after dark, visitors can simply press the button to light up the courts — a convenient feature for late-night games or family outings.

School officials are encouraging everyone to take pride in the new facility by keeping the space clean, disposing of trash properly, and showing courtesy to fellow players.

The Pickleball Boom

While tennis has long been a staple sport at Salamanca High School, it’s pickleball that’s quickly becoming popular among people of all ages. The fast-growing game combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, and it’s easy to learn for all ages.

All you need is a paddle, a lightweight perforated ball (similar to a whiffle ball), and a partner or two. Players hit the ball back and forth over a net on a smaller court than tennis, making it less physically demanding but still energetic and exciting.

Why People Love It

Pickleball is especially popular because the rules are simple, so newcomers can jump in right away. It provides a fun way to get exercise without being too hard on the body, helping improve balance, coordination, and heart health. The smaller courts also make the game feel fast-paced and social, perfect for playing with friends or meeting new people.

See You on the Courts

Whether you’re a seasoned tennis player, a curious pickleball beginner, or someone just looking for a fun way to stay active, grab your racket or paddle and head over to Salamanca’s new courts before winter arrives. The community is invited to enjoy this exciting addition to the school and city.

Other Places Nearby to Play

In addition to Salamanca’s new courts, other nearby pickleball courts include outdoor and indoor spaces at the Olean YMCA, Route 16 Pickleball indoor courts in Chafee, Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School, Allegany Community Center in Salamanca, and Wellsville’s Island Park.
