Santa Express Train Ride – Gowanda, NY
About 45 minutes from Olean
One of the closest options for local families, the Santa Express Train Ride in Gowanda is operated by the New York & Lake Erie Railroad. This one-hour journey winds through beautiful rural Western New York scenery, making it a relaxing and festive outing.
Santa and Mrs. Claus greet passengers on board, adding to the holiday excitement.
Movie buffs may also recognize the area — the railroad and depot were used in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and parts of The Natural were filmed in the village. It’s a reminder that our region’s charm is worthy of the big screen.
Santa’s Wonderland Express – Arcade, NY

The Arcade & Attica Railroad offers a one-of-a-kind holiday experience aboard the only vintage steam train in New York State still offering passenger service. Departing from the historic Arcade station, this two-hour roundtrip ride feels like stepping back in time.
A highlight of the Santa’s Wonderland Express journey is a stop at Currier’s Station, which is transformed into a Christmas wonderland complete with elves, face painting, reindeer, cookies, hot cocoa, gift shopping, and a special visit from Santa Claus himself.

The Polar Express Train Ride – Medina, NY

Inspired by the beloved children’s book, the Polar Express Train Ride in Medina delivers 90 minutes of nonstop holiday fun.

The ride takes place at the Medina Toy Train Museum, home to the largest electric model train layout east of the Mississippi. Many families turn this trip into a full holiday outing by exploring the museum before or after the train ride.
Santa Trains to the North Pole – Rochester Area
