Motorists can once again travel the eastbound lanes of Interstate 86 between Exit 26 (Olean) and Exit 27 (Hinsdale).
The New York State Department of Transportation confirmed that the stretch of highway, which had been closed since July 8 for the replacement of a large culvert under the expressway, reopened yesterday.
During the closure, all eastbound traffic was detoured onto Route 16 North from Olean to Hinsdale. The detour brought heavier-than-usual traffic to a corridor lined with homes and local businesses, creating added congestion for much of the summer.
With the work now complete, traffic has resumed in both directions along the corridor, easing the burden on Route 16 and restoring normal flow to the interstate.
